Piggy Bank

February 19th 2007
Budaiya

It was quiet in the office front today since it was an unoficial holiday to mark the Chinese New Year. They had a big party last night and all the **** were there...all lost in the drinking and merry making.
I went out to spend some time with a friend for coffee and sharing a moist chocolate cake and dates pudding.

This morning I had a not so pleasant encounter at the bank. After I finished my transaction at the counter, I requested for a final bank statement. Since I had closed my account it was only logic that I need to see the statement.
The teller said..."You can get it from the customer service"
Off I went to customer service counter but was served by a girl who was not really service oriented and certainly not helpful.
She wanted to charge me BD3 for it.
After being their customer for years and never missed to pay my bills..they cant even give me a print out of my final bank statement.
The only reason I opened an account with their bank was because they are open from 7am to 7pm even on public holidays.
So I told her..that I am so glad that I have closed my account with their bank.
I dont need to write the bank name here, but everyone should know that there is only one bank that opens everyday, even on public holiday...here in Bahrain. "We are open 7 days a week, from 7 to 7"...ahhh..The power of advertisement..!
So I had better take all my 'fills' and put them in a piggy bank..after all it is the year of the PIG. At least I dont need to see the customer service at the PIGGY BANK.

Aaahhh, you're working in Bahrain. So that means no Chinese New Year holidays.

With such bad service, I would keep my money at home too.

At first I thought I didn't want to comment. I can't stand bad service either, especially financial institutions i.e Banks. Once happened to me in my country. I waited almost 1/2 an hour just to deposit some cash. Everybody was so calm sitting on the chairs waiting for their turn. Sorry to say that, I lost my cool and went to the counter which was supposed to deal with matter like mine i.e to deposit money. I told them how poor was the service and I couldn't believe that with all the advance technology they have today, the service were like the time before the technological advance. I was happy because I did say something otherwise, I would be thinking about it and questioning myself why didn't I say something.
Life is such, you always have to fight your corner and know your rights.
If I were you I would have asked to see the Manager, I don't deal with those people at the counter. I go straight to the top, more often than not you get better outcome.
I think that's an example of bad Customer Service. Write to the Manager if I were you.

hi anon,
This is not the first time that we experienced bad services from the same bank. A colleaque was asked to pay BD5, when the ATM card got spoiled, and they never send the new visa card after it has expired. But they would send all the bills on time..!
I shall write to the manager and let him know how his staff are handling the customers.

hmmm...after being one good customer, they can't even print your statement for you?! whatta??? they really need a customer service seminar! maybe instead of opening on holidays, they can spend that time training their employees?

anyway... good move, ammoontie! :)

That's good. I am pleased to hear that you are going to do something about it. Don't let those people who treated you (the customer) badly get away with it. They gave you hardtime. Now, it is your turn - it is a paying back time!!!

hi dangkin,
Sad to say customer service here really sucks. I think they are not interested to "work".

hi anon,
Yes, I think we do deserve to be trated justly, even though ours are not prime accounts. Their laid back could care less attitude only serves to bring down the image of the supposedly international bank.

Let me guess.. Was it Standard Chartered Bank?
